Hello everyone, we hope you all had a great winter break! We are excited to start up our meetings and events! Before we start off, this is now the old website for the UMN Pre-Dental Club. This will be the last post on this website. Everything from this website will be displayed on our new website that will continue to be updated throughout the coming semester. This website will not be updated! On Saturday, January 25th, we are holding an impression taking workshop in Bruininks 114. RSVP for this event using the QR Code listed on our instagram account. 60 members that RSVP’d will be randomly selected to attend the event. Then on January 30th, David De Jong is presenting a lecture on Fluoride from 7-8 p.m. in PWB 3-150/3-152. We hope you all can make it and we look forward to seeing you and catching up! December Meeting!
Our last official meeting of the semester will take place on Tuesday, December 3rd, from 7:00-8:00pm in the Phillip Wangsteen Building, room 3-154,156. We are welcoming Dr. Teressa Fong, who works in Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry! This meeting will be in collaboration with the Children’s Dental Health Advocates (CDHA) and Dunkin Donuts will be provided! Dr. Fong will talk about her personal journey and experiences with children’s oral health, life lessons, working in pediatrics and the importance of the specialty, and some case studies! We hope to see you all there!
Give Kids a Smile Pre-Dental Volunteer Opportunity
Hello everyone! It’s time to sign up to volunteer at this years Give Kids a Smile event! This year, the event will be held on Saturday, February 8th from 7 am to 4 pm. For those who haven’t gotten the chance to volunteer at this event before, Give Kids a Smile is a day of free care for the children in our community who are in need of a dental home. We will be helping our DDS, Dental Hygiene, and Dental Therapy students to run a full pediatric clinic on the 8th floor of Moos Tower. Providers will perform exams, prophys, fillings, and more.
As Pre-Dental Volunteers, we will have the opportunity to serve as greeters and guides for the families that come to the event. We will help direct them toward the clinic and even get the chance to interact with the patients and their families as they wait in the lobby. Attending this event will give you the opportunity to gain clinical experience, support a good cause, and learn from your peers.
If you sign up for the morning shift, breakfast will be provided and you will be expected to attend the event from 7 am to 12 pm. Afternoon volunteers will receive lunch and will be expected to attend the event from 11 am to 4 pm. If you have a UMN Pre-Dental Club shirt, we highly recommend wearing it!

Volunteer Opportunity – Smile Train Charity
Come join us this Wednesday, November 20th, from 7:15 – 8:15 pm in Bruininks 131B to create get well soon cards for children recovering from cleft palate surgeries. This event is through Smile Train, an organization that provides these surgeries for children in need. This will be a fun event that will not only make countless children happy, but will also give you time to hangout with your friends and meet other club members! We hope you can make it!

November Meeting Recap
Thank you to everyone who could join us and listen to Dr. David Domaas give insight on the dental field and his career. It was great to see all of you again and we hoped you enjoyed his cases and dental stories. We introduced our new club interns and also handed out this years t-shirts so if you were unable to make it, they will be available during board member office hours later this month (see dates and times on the “Club Meeting Schedule” tab).
Looking ahead, on Monday, November 18th, we will be holding a suture event that is available to everyone. Make sure to sign up in the google sheet linked below and come hangout while learning surgical suture techniques. This is a great experience and we look forward to seeing you all there!

Congratulations to Hans Stromberg, Rebekka Hailu, and Abdi Ahmed on becoming our new club interns! Thank you to everyone who interviewed and shared their ideas for the club! We can’t wait to see what we can accomplish this year!

We hope you can all stop by, say hi, and support our club by purchasing baked goods, cookies, and Dunkin Donuts Coffee. All proceeds from our booth will go to Give Kids a Smile! Reminder: Intern Interviews will be held from 6:00-7:00 pm in Bruininks 144 directly before the meeting. The interviews will happen on a first come first serve basis. We encourage you to interview!
