Officer elections are held in April, and members will be notified when and how they can submit applications near that time. If you have any questions about being an officer, feel free to ask any of the current ones.

Feel free to e-mail a specific officer/board member if you want to meet with them  to learn more about their dental experiences, advice on the DAT, or applying for dental school using the ADEA’s AADSAS (American Dental Education Association’s- Associated American Dental Schools Application Service).

Pre-Dental Background: Felicia started her journey to dentistry six years ago in her hometown, Grand Rapids, MN. It is here she received the opportunity to work with a general dentist, Dr. Jess, a past president of the Minnesota Dental Association. She fell in love with the field fast, especially when it came to treating the underprivileged in her rural community. This past Fall, Felicia also began an incredible opportunity working for Dr. Grueinheid of the UMN Division of Orthodontics. Here, she was still given the opportunity to help the underprivileged in the city, as well as learn about the complex field of orthodontics. She has been inspired by both doctors in pursuing a career to help those whom are less fortunate, and she plans to one-day work in a rural town and help the impoverished. Felicia has also volunteered at three of the Minnesota Mission of Mercy events. This past year was especially special as she was able to assist Dr. Jess in triage. Wanting to give back to her local community, Felicia and her mother, a dental assistant, have volunteered at schools by demonstrating proper brushing, flossing, and hygiene care. Given how many children are underserved, it is an issue very important to her and one she holds close to her heart.

Hobbies/Interests: In her spare time, Felicia loves to watch Seinfeld, listen to classic rock, golf, and attempt to play hockey. Of course, this is all when she isn’t obsessing over teeth!

Pre-Dental Background: My experiences in the dental field were what assured that I’ve chosen the right profession to pursue. I have shadowed general dentists, a pediatric dentist, a periodontist, and a couple oral surgeons. I regularly volunteer at Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities at their Dental Clinic, providing oral care to local impoverished communities. I also volunteer annually at “Give Kids A Smile Day” here at the U of M School of Dentistry. Through the Vida Volunteer program, I have also spent time volunteering in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. In Costa Rica, we set out on a public health mission. I educated populations about the importance of a healthy mouth and how to maintain one. During my visit to Nicaragua, we set up mini clinics to collectively provide a resource that many did not have access to – dental care! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every opportunity I’ve had interacting with patients and learning more about dentistry from professionals.

Hobbies/Interests: During my free time I enjoy running, camping, fishing, and spending time with friends and family. I also really love traveling and experiencing new places.
