You sign up for however many shifts and what times you are able to serve.
What is it about? A chance for many dentists, dental staff, and pre-dental student volunteers to give back to the community. You will be assigned a role such as being a patient escort and will be provided guidelines to serve the patients-enjoy this wonderful experience. A testimony about what I did two years ago is below:
My testimony: I participated in the first Mission of Mercy held in MN in 2012. I was assigned to be a patient escort. There are many different areas where you have the opportunity to escort patients from one station to the next and help them be on their way.
It was a fun and exciting experience to be given a strong leadership role. After the lines died down, I assisted with transporting used dental instruments to the dental sterilization instruments table. Patients will also need to know certain areas such as restroom or the waiting room to find their other family members that are also waiting for them.
There are different shift times that you can sign up for. I signed up for 5 a.m.-12 p.m. for a one-day shift and was able to network with other dentists too. If you want to volunteer for both shifts you are able to stay at a hotel nearby. Depending on your shift: breakfast, lunch and a free T-shirt will be provided!
This was an experience that I knew I was giving back to the community! I had such a great experience that I wanted to share this event with you all.
For those that are looking for more leadership experience, building confidence in the ability to guide patients and watch other passionate dentists work on these patients, this is an event that you don’t want to miss!

Good luck with the rest of your exams and see you at the last meeting (Practicing Dentist Board and Elections) Monday, April 21st at 6-7 p.m. in MCB 2-120.
It’s been a pleasure to serve you all this year.
